Trading Post Brewing is dedicated to the art of craft beer and was looking for a way to help someone achieve their dream to become a brewer. The solution was to create a scholarship to the Brewing Lab at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.

The award is named after the late John Mitchell, the grandfather of the modern craft beer movement in British Columbia. As the host brewery of the first annual Fort Langley Beer + Food Festival, Trading Post Brewing Co has committed to supporting a scholarship this year and in the future.

“John Mitchell stands for quality brewing. Given that Trading Post Brewing is connected to the school, by being just down the street and with students working part time at Trading Post, we thought that it would be fitting for our brewery to give back to craft beer industry in John Mitchel’s name,” says Lance Verhoeff, General Manager and Founder of Trading Post Brewing.

“Trading Post’s values include building community and quality.  Therefore, supporting the local brewing school to help develop high quality brewers for the craft beer industry is in total alignment with what we stand for,”  says Tony Dewald head brewer of Trading Post Brewing.

Criteria for the scholarship includes:

  • A student who volunteers in the community
  • An exceptional student with a GPA of 3.00 or greater
  • A full time Brewing Diploma student completing their first year of the KPU Brewing Program and going into their second year of the program in the fall.
  • Preference is given to student who is a Fraser Valley resident
